Addressing Fatigue and Vaginal Dryness Through Herbal Remedies
Crashing fatigue and vaginal dryness are two more perimenopause symptoms that can be addressed using herbal remedies, helping you through the discomfort of perimenopause.
Crashing Fatigue
Do you always feel tired, exhausted and uncomfortable? It’s also known as crashing fatigue, and it is a symptom of perimenopause. It can really affect your everyday life because you feel to tired to do anything. If you suffer from this symptom, consider the following herbs
- Panax Ginseng
There are a lot of types of ginseng in the market. Panax is the variety that helps with symptoms of fatigue.
- DHEA
This will give you an energy boost to combat fatigue.
Vaginal Dryness
The loss of libido, which is often accompanied by vaginal dryness is a concern for many perimenopausal women, especially those who are at the peak of their sex life. There are some herbal remedies that can help this problem.
- Water
Yes, we need water … and that’s not just when we’re thirsty. Always stay hydrated because invariably, it has an effect on our skin, vaginal dryness included. At least 8 glasses of water should be taken daily.
- Aloe Gel
This can be applied at night time to effectively relieve vaginal dryness.
- Vitamin E
A study in the late 40s showed that vitamin E can relieve postmenopausal vaginal dryness. There is also a belief that it also helps perimenopausal women for the same symptom.
- Natural progesterone skin cream
This is also believed to promote an increased libido, although not many clinical tests have been made to prove this. (But if you do try it and it works, let me know.)
- Wild yam (Also known as colic root, Devil’s bones, Yuma, and rheumatism root)
This is said to effectively relieve vaginal dryness.
- Avena sativa
If your loss of libido bothers you and your partner, then this may be a possible solution. Avena sativa is an extract from green or wild oats that can be made into pill form. This raises your testosterone level (which determines the levels of your sex drive) and is said to have no untoward side effects. 500 to 750 mg per day should be enough.
- Black cohosh (Also known as American Baneberry, Bugwort, Black snakeroot, Rattleweed and Squawroot)
This can also be put to good use in the relief of vaginal dryness.
- Chamomile and peppermint tea
These teas are said to help in relieving vaginal dryness and irritation.
- Flax seed
This greatly reduces vaginal dryness. 25 grams of ground flax seed (or linseed) can be sprinkled on food.
- Damiana
This is an herb that helps regulate the pituitary gland. Also, this helps women with their libido problems during perimenopause. Take a 2 ml tincture with water, 2 to 3 times a day.
- Cordyceps
This is a rare mushroom used by Chinese herbalists to treat fatigue, cough and sexual dysfunction. It is said to increase blood flow to the sexual organ. A sexual tonic, it also boosts oxygen intake during exercise.
Never use under the following conditions: running a fever, if you are pregnant or nursing. Diabetics may use this, but since it affects glucose metabolism, blood sugar levels should be monitored. You can take two 400 mg pills once or twice a day. (Be on the lookout for a hot-water extract of this, as it is reportedly better than the pill version.)
- Wheat germ oil
This is said to be effective in relieving vaginal dryness.
- Vaginal lubricant or creams
If you need to just do it but you are hesitant due to vaginal dryness and irritation, try applying a water- based lubricant. You can also ask for an estrogen-based vaginal cream on your next visit to your doctor.
