Introduction to Lifestyle Changes for Perimenopause

Throughout this site, we have discussed a lot of things – what perimenopause is, the signs and symptoms, tests done, and treatments done (conventional, alternative prescription medication, and alternative ones). Considering that there are a lot of treatments available medically and in herbal stores worldwide, one now thinks, what’s the best one for my symptoms (whatever it is)?

Well it all depends on your lifestyle!

Mrs. Simon is in her late 40s and currently experiencing perimenopause. She tried to do conventional, alternative prescription and alternative herbal medicines for her symptoms (specifically hot flashes and her irregular periods), but nothing seemed to work.

She claims that the treatments she was given were effective, but only for a time. She said that even doctors were baffled, some considering her a “medical anomaly” in that nothing she tried worked and stayed effective I asked her what her diet was and if she exercised regularly. She huffed and puffed… and said that it was none of my business.

Maybe so. But more than 85 percent of menopausal women experience symptoms due to an unhealthy diet. Women juggle a lot of roles and responsibilities and as a result, a lot of us rely on fast-food and takeaways.

Not only that, but most women are also lazy when it comes to exercise. (Yeah, I was once one of them too.) It’s so hard to commit to something “strenuous” when you could just be relaxing on the couch watching your favorite soap. (Yes, that would be me… and a host of other perimenopausal women.)

The truth is, however, lifestyle changes can help you overcome many of your perimenopause symptoms. Switching to a healthier diet, finding time for regular exercise, and taking care of your mind or doing mental exercises, can all help you regulate the physical changes happening to your body, and help make whatever treatment you choose more effective. In some cases, these lifestyle changes are all you need!
