Perimenopause Treatment – Exercise and Diet as Part of the Solution
Possibly at this time, we now know that perimenopause is inevitable – it is a normal stage that every woman will go through. Symptoms may range from the usual ones – irregular menstrual periods, hot flashes, night sweats, a little insomnia, midsection weight gain and/or bloating, and mood swings – to the sometimes non-distinct ones – such as hair loss or thinning of hair (or facial hair growth in some cases), vaginal dryness and irritation, heart palpitations, muscle and joint aches, etc. A perimenopause diet and exercise plan may be part of the solution.
Some women may experience some pain and some may be lucky enough not to. But for most women, perimenopause discomforts and pain is real. And sometimes, it is too tough to handle if you are alone and you feel that no one understands you.
You have to know that the first step you should take would be to go to a doctor or your health care provider. Yes, I know it’s scary (hah! I’ve been in your shoes, so I should know), but believe me, it is absolutely necessary. If you think about it, it’s scarier to hear a doctor say that you have a serious medical condition than hearing him say that your body is getting old. Also, you would need a doctor’s go signal first before we discuss what this is all about.
Yes, you need to get your doctor’s approval first before you make some lifestyle changes. Why? Well, because your doctor is the one holding your medical records. As much as we want don’t want to admit it, they actually know what to do since they usually know what’s wrong with us. He will be the one to recommend treatments for you once determined that you aren’t suffering from any infection or debilitating disease. He can give you proper medical advice depending on your age and medical records.
If you get his okay, it’s also best that you consult with him about possible diet options. Eating fruits and leafy green vegetables are a big okay for your health. If you can eat organic, then that would be great. If not, avoid too much salt in your food if possible. This is one of the possible causes of the bloating feeling you have, especially when you feel that your mid-section is starting to grow horizontally.
Exercise improves blood circulation, strengthens your heart and muscles, and allows you to breathe easier. Some exercises may be too stressful (if your doctor feels that your bones are too brittle or some other age-related issues). Consider discussing the following “safe” and easy exercise with your doc: Walking around the block (or walking the dog in the park, if you have one), brisk walking, jogging (which should be done at around 6 or 7 in the morning when the air is still fresh and full of oxygen), dancing, stretching, cycling and sports (if you’re athletically active).
