Physical Changes of Perimenopause That Can Be Addressed Through Herbal Treatments

Apart from all the other symptoms mentioned throughout the site, there are some physical changes which are also perimenopause symptoms and can be addressed through herbal treatments. These changes include, breast tenderness, heart palpitations, headaches, and gastrointestinal problems.

- Evening primrose oil

This eases the discomfort of sore, tender breasts.

- Chasteberry

This is said to relieve breast soreness, and effective in dampening and decreasing symptoms of fibrocystic breast disease and cyclic breast tenderness.

- Magnesium

Helps in heart palpitations brought about by perimenopause.

- Wild yam (Also known as colic root, Devil’s bones, Yuma, and rheumatism root)

This herb has been claimed by some to help in severe migraine-like headaches.

- Black cohosh (Also known as American Baneberry, Bugwort, Black snakeroot, Rattleweed and Squawroot)

This herb may be used to relieve headaches caused by perimenopause due to its pain-relieving qualities. This also helps reduce the luteinizing hormone (which is usually the main cause of heart palpitations caused by perimenopause).

- Lemongrass oil

This is considered to be helpful in treating acne (cleanse and remove sebum and helps close pores), gas, diarrhea, vomiting, rheumatism, and even the common flu and headaches.

Did you know? Lemongrass can also be used as an insect repellent. Rub the crushed herb
directly on the skin to prevent bug bites.

- Iron

If you are iron deficient, you will be more prone to gastrointestinal pains brought about by perimenopause. It is recommended to take ferrous sulfate (an iron supplement) with some food to eliminate tummy pain.

Too much iron can cause cirrhosis of the liver – a chronic liver disease that may progress to loss of liver function – so you shouldn’t take iron unless you are deficient. Ask your doctor to confirm if you need it, just to be safe.

- Vitamins B, C and E

As we’ve been told in school, vitamins are good for the body. Remember way back when acne and pimples became our wake-up calls to cut down on greasy food and to start taking supplements?

We still need this daily regimen to help reduce (and eventually eliminate) perimenopause acne. Taking these vitamins reduces sebum (oil) production and lessens the possibility of you having to relive the horrors of high school acne.
