Solving Weight Gain and Cognitive Issues Due to Perimenopause

Perimenopause weight gain and cognitive issues are just two of the many perimenopause problems women face. Both are very frustrating, eight gained during perimenopause is very hard to lose, while the forgetfulness that comes with perimenopause is challenging both for you and those around you, but both can be overcome.

Weight Gain

- DHEA

This may help in controlling weight.

- Ginger tea

This eliminates gas and bloating, an excellent digestive aid.

- Black cohosh (Also known as American Baneberry, Bugwort, Black snakeroot, Rattleweed and Squawroot)

Effective in relieving the discomforts of bloating and water retention due to perimenopause.

Cognitive Problems

Often, the problems are with regards to memory, focus and concentration. Short-term memory is usually affected; normally, it freaks one out to remember an activity 10 years ago, only to realize that it’s so easy to forget something that happened just 10 minutes ago. So here are some herbs that have helped women for hundreds of centuries.

- Ginseng

This herb can increase the activity of your brain, hence, helping with brain functions that sometimes become affected due to perimenopause. This can also be of big help for women who find themselves distracted and lacking in concentration and who experience short-term memory loss quite frequently.

- Gingko biloba

Like the ginseng, this also helps with brain functions, specifically improving memory and the ability to focus during perimenopause. This herb also improves blood circulation and increases oxygenation of the brain tissues.

This is an effective remedy for forgetfulness brought about by this phase. This can be found in powder supplements, tablet or pill form.

Gingko Biloba however, is not recommended for people who are taking antidepressants, anticoagulants and/or pregnant women. Possible side effects include: an increased risk for bleeding, nausea, anger, anxiety, vomiting, gas, diarrhea, heart palpitations and dizziness.

- Rosemary

This herb/spice helps keep the brain stimulated, and keeps memory in tip-top shape.

- Green tea and black tea

These are also said to improve memory functions, specifically help with forgetfulness and in improving short term memory. These also contain caffeine, so care must be made in its ingestion. Other symptoms include breast tenderness, heart palpitations or flutters, headaches, acne, and gastrointestinal problems.
